Characteristics and Usage of Thin Bible Paper

Thin bible paper, also known as lightweight coated paper, is a low-grammage paper specifically used for printing Bibles. Using this type of paper can reduce the cost of books and periodicals.

Raw Materials and Performance of Thin Bible Paper

Thin bible paper is made from bleached chemical wood pulp and a small amount of grass pulp, through sizing or light sizing, and calendering. Since books printed on thin bible paper are generally dictionaries or reference books that have small print, thick volumes, and are frequently used, the paper needs to have corresponding strength, folding endurance, and smoothness to ensure clear and aesthetically pleasing print, as well as long usage life.

This thin bible paper can be used for printing Bibles, reference books, scientific literature, and more. Its characteristics include: being thin and soft, allowing the same thickness of books to contain 30%-50% more text and images, thereby reducing costs.

Considerations When Binding Thin Bible Paper

Thin bible paper is thin and soft, easily absorbing moisture. When damp, it can develop wavy wrinkles and the edges can curl, shortening its lifespan and causing inconvenience in binding processing.

  • The method of knocking pages should be accurate, generally using a jiggle method rather than an impact method to avoid excessive collision force, which could cause the edges to fray and curl, making the stack of paper untidy and affecting subsequent processing and the quality of the final product.

  • When machine folding, high-speed or buckle folding machines should not be used as the thin and soft paper can easily tear, resulting in waste.

  • When gathering pages with a machine, the suction force should not be too strong to avoid causing double sheets or tear pages.

  • When sewing, a cross-stitch method should be used rather than a flat stitch, as the latter can cause the book spine to be too high relative to the surface of the book block, making it difficult to process.

  • When cutting the finished product, the cutter angle (α) should be smaller than that used for other types of paper to ensure a smooth cut.

  • The adhesive used should be the same as that for coat paper.

Golden Paper Group provides high-quality thin bible paper that is not only thin and soft but also has excellent strength, folding endurance, and smoothness to ensure clear print and long usage life. Golden Paper Group's thin bible paper effectively reduces costs while meeting high standards for printing and binding, making it the best choice for your publishing projects.
